What is an advanced Practice Registered Nurse (Nurse Practitioner)?

A nurse practitioner must complete a master’s or doctoral degree program along with advanced clinical hours beyond their initial registered nurse preparation. Hands-on and advanced clinical course work prepares nurses with more specialized knowledge and clinical competency to provide primary care, acute care and long term health care to a wide variety of patients. A nurse practitioner is an advanced practice registered nurse with the experience to provide direct primary care medicine to meet and exceed the needs of their patients.

In order for a nurse practitioner to be recognized as a health care provider and ensure the highest quality medical care, nurse practitioners also known as (ARNP’s) must undergo a rigorous national certification program, periodic peer review, clinical outcome evaluations and adhere to a code of ethical medical practices. Nurse practitioners must also continue self-directed learning and attend professional development courses to maintain clinical competency.

Nurse practitioners are licensed to practice under specific rules and regulations of the state for which they are licensed to practice. Nurse practitioners provide high quality health care in rural, urban, and suburban communities and a wide variety of settings, including clinics, hospitals, emergency rooms, urgent care sites and in their homes. Some operate visiting patients at their homes or as in our case, we provide concierge health care to a wide variety of clients including VIP’s, Celebrities, Professional Athletes and Performers.

Nurse practitioners provide a complete range of primary, acute and specialty medical care services equivalent to a primary care doctor, including:

  • Ordering, performing and interpreting diagnostic tests such as lab work and x-rays.
  • Diagnosing and treating acute and chronic conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, infections and injuries.
  • Prescribing medications and other treatments.
  • Managing patients’ overall care.
  • Counseling
  • Educating patients on disease prevention and positive health and lifestyle choices
