What is an advanced Practice Registered Nurse (Nurse Practitioner)?

A nurse practitioner must complete a master’s or doctoral degree program along with advanced clinical hours beyond their initial registered nurse preparation. Hands-on and advanced clinical course work prepares nurses with more specialized knowledge and clinical competency to provide primary care, acute care and long term health care to a wide variety of patients. A nurse practitioner is an advanced practice registered nurse with the experience to provide direct primary care medicine to meet and exceed the needs of their patients.

ADVANCED PRACTICE REGISTERED NURSE QUALIFICATIONS

In order for a nurse practitioner to be recognized as a health care provider and ensure the highest quality medical care, nurse practitioners also known as (ARNP’s) must undergo a rigorous national certification program, periodic peer review, clinical outcome evaluations and adhere to a code of ethical medical practices. Nurse practitioners must also continue self-directed learning and attend professional development courses to maintain clinical competency.
